NYA’s Annual Vacation

New Year’s Day in Japan is a preparation day to welcome toshigami (年神), the new year’s god. Buddhist temples ring their bells 108 times at midnight to repent all 108 of the bonnō (煩悩), defilements, which people are said to have in their minds. This tradition is called joya no kane (除夜の鐘) which means “bell rings on new year eve’s night.”

New York Adorned will be closing at 5 pm on the 31st and remain closed through the 5th of January to repent our own bonnō. Deep cleans, detox and rejuvenation will ensue and we’ll see you on the 6th!
